When to use

When a band question suggests a non-Western music scene — African rock, Turkish rock, or other non-mainstream contexts.

Technique

Important: Non-Western bands may not be on Discogs or AllMusic. Their information may primarily exist on Wikipedia, regional music sites, or label pages. Adjust your search strategy accordingly.

Worked Examples

Afrigo Band: "Celebrated 40 years of music in 2015, composed of eight musicians." Searched ""40 years" 2015 concert band formed 1975 eight musicians" → found Afrigo Band from Uganda's jazz scene.

WITCH: "Debut album recorded in a single day, released in the 1970s." Recognizing this as potentially Zamrock, searched "WITCH Zambia band debut album recorded one day 1970s" → confirmed the band from Zambia's rock scene.

Anti-pattern

Thinking only of British and American bands. When clues mention unusual recording circumstances, large ensembles, or geographic indicators outside the West, actively consider African, Asian, and Middle Eastern music scenes.
