Skill UI

This tutor specializes in developing advanced critical thinking and argumentative skills across humanities and social sciences. It covers disciplines including philosophy, sociology, psychology, political science, and literature. Instead of providing simple answers, the focus is on teaching students how to construct nuanced, evidence-based arguments, utilize multiple theoretical frameworks (e.g., Marxist, feminist), engage in close textual reading, and master the structure of academic writing, supporting both Chinese and Western academic traditions.

This guide details how to position academic manuscripts within a specific geographic scholarly debate, rather than simply citing domain literature. It teaches authors to identify the "closest prior account," articulate a cross-cutting geographic stake, and engage with core geographic theories to enhance the impact of their findings for an advanced scholarly audience.

A guide for authors needing to precisely position their theoretical contribution against existing literature. It teaches how to identify the 'delta'—the exact difference (e.g., weaker assumption, new environment, full characterization)—relative to the single closest academic result, rather than making vague claims about the field as a whole.

A guide for academic writers on how to succinctly position a research contribution against the single closest prior work in highly constrained formats (e.g., AER: Insights). It teaches authors to state the novelty (the 'delta') in one or two paragraphs, avoiding full literature reviews and focusing only on the marginal contribution.

This guide details the rigorous double-blind peer review process used by major art history journals. It helps authors understand what expert referees and editors focus on—such as the originality of the argument, close visual analysis, and documentary evidence—to pre-empt common objections and significantly improve manuscript quality before submission. It emphasizes mastering academic standards and anonymity protocols.

This guide outlines the rigorous methodology of 'close looking' crucial for academic art writing, particularly for Art Bulletin articles. It teaches how to move beyond mere description by systematically analyzing composition, facture, medium, and scale. Every visual claim must be supported by reproducible evidence, such as numbered figures or detail crops, ensuring the argument is grounded in verifiable observation, not mere assertion.

Guides scholars in the methodology of Critical Inquiry (CI), where evidence is not data but objects (texts, images, artworks, cases) read closely through theory. This skill teaches how to select objects that rigorously test an argument, perform deep close reading, incorporate counter-evidence, and prepare visual materials to professional journal standards.

This guide teaches how to precisely position a new research result within the formal theoretical lineage of existing literature. Unlike a general literature review, this method focuses on defining the formal relationship (e.g., nesting, generalization, assumption weakening) between your contribution and the closest prior work, minimizing credibility risks in academic publishing.

This skill guides authors in transforming raw experimental data into a compelling, logically structured scientific narrative suitable for top-tier journals like JACS. It teaches how to explicitly define the 'chemical advance' by building an evidence-backed claim chain: Problem $ ightarrow$ Advance $ ightarrow$ Evidence $ ightarrow$ Significance. It ensures that every claim of novelty is rigorously supported by data and compares the work explicitly against the closest prior art.

A comprehensive guide for authors on how to structure the literature review and introduction of academic papers, especially in banking and finance. It teaches how to precisely identify and articulate a unique contribution ('delta') relative to the closest existing literature, ensuring the paper is seen as a specialized advancement rather than a generic survey.

A comprehensive guide for academic authors on how to precisely position their research within the specialized field of corporate finance. It teaches how to identify the specific theoretical 'strand' (e.g., capital structure, governance, M&A) and articulate a clear, marginal contribution by contrasting the work against 2-3 closest existing papers, thereby transforming vague claims into rigorous academic arguments.

This guide teaches systematic methods for positioning a research manuscript's marginal contribution, particularly for general-interest academic journals. It emphasizes locating the true academic frontier, explicitly naming 2-3 closest preceding works, and articulating the novel 'delta' in one sentence. The goal is to pass the 'travel test'—demonstrating why the finding matters to a broad, non-specialist readership.
