This guide provides a comprehensive deep dive into the multi-stage peer review process for academic submissions, detailing the roles of EIC, Senior Editor, and Associate Editor. It teaches users how to correctly interpret complex decision letters, distinguish between fundamental contribution gaps and minor execution issues, and structure a preparatory ledger to set realistic expectations for revision rounds.

This guide provides a comprehensive framework for drafting authoritative author responses during academic conference reviews (e.g., ISSTA). It covers triage strategies, distinguishing between factual corrections and promised changes, and structuring a Major-Revision ledger. Learn how to address reviewer concerns strategically, maintain anonymity, and anchor all claims to evidence for maximizing acceptance chances.

This framework guides the creation of a structured, argumentative literature review, preventing the writing from becoming a mere annotated bibliography. By imposing a unifying taxonomy, model, or question sequence, the author transforms scattered research into a cohesive argument about the field. It helps define the 'spine' of the survey, identifies knowledge gaps, and reconciles apparent contradictions in existing literature.

This skill guides authors in determining if their academic work is best suited for the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL). It assesses whether the piece is an authoritative, synthetic review essay, focusing on synthesizing existing knowledge and setting an academic agenda, rather than presenting new empirical results. It helps authors properly frame their contribution, understand the required structure, and navigate the specialized submission criteria for top-tier economic journals.

This guide details the critical process of transforming an accepted, anonymous conference paper into its final, published, open-access version for the ACL Anthology. It covers the essential 'three-source merge' process: integrating reviewer-promised revisions, restoring author identity and community acknowledgements, correcting metadata, and managing conference logistics. Essential reading for authors submitting to top-tier NLP venues like NAACL.

This guide teaches authors how to properly position their research contribution within a specialized academic field, particularly for journals like Research Policy. It instructs users on how to move beyond simple citation lists by identifying a clear, theoretical knowledge gap (a tension) in the existing literature. By anchoring the work in foundational canons and naming the prevailing consensus, authors can structure a compelling argument that defines what the field should believe after reading the paper.

A comprehensive guide for authors transitioning from summarizing individual studies to synthesizing knowledge across a field. It teaches the critical, integrative voice required for publishing high-impact reviews, covering structure (Introduction Arc), methodology (APA 7), and critical argumentation (Synthesis vs. Summary). Essential for systematic literature reviews.

A comprehensive guide detailing how to construct the critical 'one-shot revision letter' for SIGMETRICS submissions. This process requires transforming the response into a systematic 'change ledger,' ensuring every required change from the reviewers' list is explicitly addressed, justified, or demonstrably resolved in the revised paper or accompanying artifacts. Essential for authors aiming for conference acceptance.

This guide provides an in-depth breakdown of the academic research paper review cycle, using top-tier database conferences (like SIGMOD) as a case study. It covers the double-anonymous review process, the author feedback phase, interpreting the Accept/Reject/Revise verdicts, and navigating the post-decision revision window and embargo rules. Essential knowledge for authors preparing submissions to top-tier conference proceedings.

A comprehensive guide for researchers on elevating empirical findings into substantial theoretical contributions. It teaches methods to transition from simply stating 'X affects Y' to developing novel concepts, propositions, or analytical frameworks, ensuring the work engages in genuine theoretical dialogue and positions local experiences within a broader knowledge system.

A comprehensive guide for academic authors on how to transition raw research findings into a clear, explicit, and highly significant statement of knowledge. It teaches authors how to frame their contribution—whether it's a new theory, a refined measurement, or a policy implication—to satisfy journal requirements and reviewer skepticism, ensuring the paper clearly answers the question: 'What does the field now know?'

This guide provides a rigorous methodology for achieving scientific reproducibility in technical and user experience papers (e.g., UIST). It details three essential 'ledgers': the Build Ledger (pinning software, hardware, and environment dependencies), the Measurement Ledger (defining precise protocols for metrics like latency and accuracy), and the Study Ledger (documenting human evaluation tasks). Following these protocols ensures that external researchers can accurately rebuild the artifact and validate reported results.
