Skill UI

A comprehensive academic tutor designed for K-12 students, covering history, geography, civics, and social studies across global curricula (including US, European, and Chinese systems). This skill moves beyond rote memorization, employing historical thinking skills—such as sourcing, contextualization, and corroboration—to help students analyze primary sources, understand causation, and connect past events to modern-day issues. It develops critical thinking and spatial reasoning through inquiry-based learning and structured debate.

This guide provides comprehensive guidelines for formatting academic manuscripts, specifically for Critical Inquiry (CI) submissions. It strictly adheres to the Chicago Manual of Style (17th ed.), mandating the use of consecutively numbered footnotes and eliminating the need for a separate works-cited list. It also covers best practices for submitting high-resolution figures (300 ppi JPEG/TIFF) and managing citations to ensure they contribute effectively to the word count and scholarly argument.

Guides scholars in the methodology of Critical Inquiry (CI), where evidence is not data but objects (texts, images, artworks, cases) read closely through theory. This skill teaches how to select objects that rigorously test an argument, perform deep close reading, incorporate counter-evidence, and prepare visual materials to professional journal standards.

This skill guides the architectural structure and rhetorical flow of a Critical Inquiry (CI) essay. Instead of following traditional IMRaD formats, it focuses on shaping the narrative arc: how to hook a non-specialist reader, build intellectual pressure, make a clear intervention (the turn), and conclude with expansive new questions. Ideal for long-form humanistic prose that needs to guide a cross-field audience through complex arguments.

This skill guide teaches how to polish complex academic prose for high-level journals, focusing on achieving an ambitious, lucid, and precise writing style. It emphasizes tightening style and discipline—ensuring clarity, maintaining a controlled academic voice, and adhering strictly to word limits (e.g., 9,500 words). It is designed to elevate the text's rhetorical quality without inventing new arguments or evidence.

This comprehensive guide helps authors assess if their theoretical or interdisciplinary manuscript is a suitable fit for Critical Inquiry. It details the journal's high-theory expectations, the necessity of conceptual intervention, cross-disciplinary stakes, and advanced best practices for academic submission, ensuring work has broad intellectual impact.
