A comprehensive guide for academics to determine if a research topic is suitable for the Journal of Economic Perspectives (JEP). It teaches authors to shift focus from presenting a narrow, new result (primary research) to synthesizing a broad, timely, and accessible understanding for a non-specialist audience, assessing criteria like breadth of interest, timeliness, and synthesizability.

This guide teaches academics how to write the 'related work' section for high-level theoretical journals. It emphasizes positioning a new result relative to the closest existing theorem, rather than giving a broad survey. Users learn to identify and articulate the precise 'delta'—whether it's weakening assumptions, achieving greater generality, introducing a new object, or providing a tighter/constructive characterization.

A comprehensive guide for strengthening causal claims in corporate and empirical finance research. This resource details advanced econometric methods—including IV, DiD, RDD, and natural experiments—and provides strategies to preempt common methodological attacks (e.g., endogeneity, parallel-trends violations) required by top-tier academic journals like the Journal of Finance.

This guide teaches authors how to strategically position their research manuscript, particularly for top finance journals (like The Journal of Finance). It moves beyond a general literature survey, instructing users to articulate a crisp, unique marginal contribution—whether it's a new fact, mechanism, or method—relative to the closest existing literature. This ensures the paper is framed to meet the high standards of academic rigor and novelty required by leading journals.

A comprehensive guide for refining academic finance manuscripts to meet the high standards of top journals like the Journal of Finance (JF). It teaches authors how to structure introductions to immediately convey the research question, key finding, and economic magnitude on page one, ensuring accessibility for a general finance audience while maintaining technical precision.

A comprehensive methodological guide for conducting rigorous quantitative research in finance, covering asset pricing, corporate finance, and econometrics. This skill defines the necessary standards for factor construction, portfolio sorting, advanced estimators (Fama-MacBeth, GMM), robust standard error clustering, and multiple-testing discipline. It ensures research designs are academically sound, reproducible, and suitable for top-tier financial journals.

This guide provides expert advice on structuring the literature review for top-tier finance journals (e.g., JFE). It teaches authors to move beyond simple chronological listing, instead mapping the core academic debates, pinpointing the exact boundaries of the closest existing work, and articulating concrete, theoretically motivated gaps that the new research fills. This is essential for convincing domain experts of novel contribution.

Provides a comprehensive framework for constructing a robust battery of empirical tests, tailored for high-impact academic journals like JFE. This guide covers alternative measures, specifications, subsamples, and falsification tests, ensuring research findings are highly credible and capable of withstanding rigorous academic scrutiny.

This guide provides expert standards for creating rigorous, self-contained tables and figures for top-tier academic journals (like JFE). It covers detailed conventions, such as structuring exhibits to convey a single, clear message, consistently reporting statistical metrics (SEs/t-stats), and ensuring figures visualize patterns rather than merely decorate. Essential for submitting polished, publication-ready empirical research.

This tool guides researchers in scoping and rigorously testing a research topic for submission to top-tier finance journals, such as the Journal of Financial Economics (JFE). It helps users refine an economic question, establish a novel contribution, identify plausible causal links, and assess the paper's depth against high academic standards (e.g., Jensen or Fama-DFA prizes). It is crucial for transforming a general academic idea into a publishable, high-impact manuscript.

This guide teaches researchers how to structure and frame academic papers, specifically for journals focusing on financial intermediation. It emphasizes moving the contribution narrative away from general finance concepts and anchoring it firmly in the roles of institutions, economic friction, causal mechanisms, and policy consequences within the financial system. Use this to strengthen abstracts and introduction paragraphs.

This guide provides a comprehensive framework for rigorously identifying and defending the methodological core of academic papers in finance and banking. It covers both empirical tracks (e.g., staggered DID, RDD, causal design for bank data) and theoretical tracks (defining necessary assumptions and analytical discipline). It helps researchers move beyond default methods to address complex challenges like internal versus external validity and causality separation.
