This guide provides detailed standards for planning, auditing, and executing data analysis for sociological manuscripts, specifically tailored to the standards of the American Journal of Sociology (AJS). It stresses that analysis must credibly support a theoretical claim, rather than simply showcasing technical proficiency. Key areas covered include quantitative robustness checks, comparative-historical logic, ethnographic procedure, and the crucial principle of triangulation across diverse data sources.

A comprehensive guide for structuring and defending the methodological design of social science manuscripts, particularly for high-impact journals like AJS. It covers diverse traditions—including quantitative, comparative-historical, ethnographic, and network analysis—ensuring the design rigorously supports the theoretical claim, rather than just presenting data. Use this when justifying case selection, identifying assumptions, or linking field observations to major theoretical arguments.

A comprehensive guide detailing the rigorous methodologies for conducting and reporting high-level academic research. It covers norms for quantitative, comparative-historical, and computational analyses, emphasizing transparency, reproducibility, robustness checks (e.g., confounders, alternative specifications), and linking claims directly to evidence, suitable for top-tier social science journals.

A comprehensive guide to structuring and defending research designs across various sociological methods, including quantitative, comparative-historical, ethnographic, and computational approaches. It emphasizes building a credible link between theoretical arguments and empirical evidence, critically addressing alternative hypotheses, and defining the scope of causal claims to meet the highest academic standards.

This skill acts as an academic positioning tool for targeting high-level journals focused on institutional and economic comparison, such as the Comparative Economic and Social Systems journal. It helps users assess if their manuscript possesses the necessary comparative scope, institutional logic, and generalizable theoretical contribution required for acceptance, guiding manuscript reframing and submission strategy.

A comprehensive guide for authors submitting work to comparative literature venues. It details the high academic bar, emphasizing that the argument must be constitutive and depend fundamentally on the comparison across multiple national and linguistic traditions. Covers scope in world literature, translation studies, cross-linguistic analysis, and adherence to specialized formatting and review norms.

This skill provides a comprehensive framework for positioning and refining academic manuscripts intended for the 'Contemporary Economy of Japan' journal. It specializes in comparative economics, focusing on Japanese macroeconomics, Sino-Japanese trade, regional cooperation, and policy implications for China's development. It guides users on meeting specific structural requirements, theoretical depth, and evidence standards (e.g., country data, comparative framework).

This skill provides rigorous standards and best practices for running and reporting analyses within Comparative Political Studies (CPS). It addresses common pitfalls in cross-national data, such as measurement error, few clusters, and spurious correlation, ensuring the resulting research is transparent, robust, and replication-ready for academic review.

A comprehensive guide for structuring the literature review in Comparative Political Studies (CPS) papers. It teaches authors how to move beyond simply citing sources by identifying a specific, contested academic debate, framing the gap as a falsifiable claim, and naming the rival theories that the paper's evidence must adjudicate. Focuses on establishing cross-regional comparative leverage.

Provides a comprehensive framework for defending the methodological rigor of comparative social science research. This skill guides users through establishing comparative leverage, whether in cross-national panel data, case-based comparisons, or natural experiments. It emphasizes techniques like causal inference, process tracing, and ruling out rival theoretical accounts to strengthen the study's claims.

This guide details the rigorous academic peer review process for Comparative Political Studies (CPS). It helps authors preempt reviewer objections by detailing the desk screening criteria, the focus of anonymous peer review, and what comparativists reward or punish. Use this before submission to stress-test your manuscript and ensure your comparative contribution is robust and defensible.

Provides comprehensive guidelines for designing self-contained, comparative, and publication-ready tables and figures for Comparative Political Studies (CPS) manuscripts. It emphasizes transforming raw statistical results into visually compelling exhibits that clearly communicate the cross-case or over-time comparative argument, while adhering to professional journal standards (e.g., grayscale legibility, vector output).
