This guide outlines the rigorous methodological standards for empirical identification in macroeconomics, crucial for submitting to top-tier journals. It covers advanced techniques such as Structural VAR (SVAR), Local Projections (LP), and handling high-frequency/micro-data shocks. It ensures authors explicitly defend the mapping from raw data to dynamic causal objects, addressing critical issues like endogeneity, anticipation, and structural breaks, and providing execution checklists for modern econometric tools (DiD, IV, RDD).

This guide provides a structured methodology for articulating the unique and marginal contribution of a scholarly paper, particularly within macroeconomics. It teaches authors how to bridge the gap between theoretical modeling (quantitative-theory) and data-driven evidence (identified-empirical), ensuring that the novelty and scope are clearly communicated to a broad, general expert audience.

A comprehensive guide for authors responding to major journal decisions (e.g., R&R or reject-with-comments) in economics. This skill teaches a systematic approach to triaging reviewer comments, structuring the rebuttal letter point-by-point, and ensuring revisions are supported by new empirical evidence rather than just prose. It focuses on maintaining academic rigor and professional communication.

A comprehensive pre-submission strategy tool designed for authors submitting to top macroeconomics journals, such as AEJ: Macro. It helps authors anticipate and structure defenses against predictable, highly technical objections (e.g., identification flaws, robustness gaps, lack of breadth) raised by expert referees and co-editors. Use this guide to assess desk-reject risk, plan necessary robustness checks, and pre-emptively strengthen the manuscript before formal submission.

A comprehensive guide for assembling a fully reproducible research package for macroeconomics papers targeting the American Economic Journal (AEJ: Macro). It ensures compliance with the AEA Data and Code Availability Policy by documenting raw data, simulation/calibration code, estimation routines, and visualization steps, guaranteeing that results can be independently verified by reviewers.

A comprehensive framework designed to rigorously test the stability of key macroeconomic findings. This program addresses potential biases arising from specification choices, sample periods (e.g., Great Moderation, ZLB, COVID breaks), and methodological variations (SVAR vs. LP). It ensures that the reported headline quantity remains robust even when challenged by a skeptical academic referee, providing a targeted defense rather than simply listing extra tables. Ideal for high-stakes empirical macro papers.

This comprehensive checklist guides authors through the final pre-submission compliance checks for the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics (AEJ: Macro). It covers critical academic standards, including formatting rules (PDF, Abstract length, JEL codes), fee structures, author disclosure statements, and essential data/code reproducibility policies, ensuring the manuscript meets all journal requirements before submission.

A comprehensive guide for formatting research exhibits, including Impulse Response Functions (IRFs), fan charts, and econometric tables, specifically for submissions to the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics (AEJ: Macro). This ensures all figures are self-contained, meet rigorous standards for clarity, and adhere to the latest macro conventions, allowing reviewers to quickly assess the quantitative evidence.

A comprehensive guide for authors developing quantitative macro models (DSGE, HANK, etc.). It outlines the rigorous standards required for parameter calibration, structural identification, solution accuracy, and counterfactual validity, ensuring the model's results are defensible and publishable in top-tier academic journals.

A comprehensive guide to assessing the fit of a macroeconomics research paper for top-tier journals, particularly the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics (AEJ: Macro). It helps researchers determine if their work possesses the required broad interest, quantitative discipline, and policy relevance to succeed at AEJ: Macro, versus more specialized venues like AER, JME, or RED. This framework guides strategic academic writing.

This skill acts as a comprehensive workflow router for manuscripts targeting the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics (AEJ: Macro). It guides the researcher through the entire publication lifecycle—from initial topic selection and literature positioning, through rigorous quantitative modeling (DSGE, SVAR), empirical identification, writing, to final submission and rebuttal strategy. It ensures the final paper meets the high standards of modern macroeconomics research.

This comprehensive guide provides strict guidelines for revising academic manuscripts submitted to the American Economic Journal: Macroeconomics (AEJ: Macro). It focuses on ensuring the writing is clear, highly impactful, and accessible to a general macroeconomist, emphasizing the macro question and headline quantitative results immediately.
