This guide outlines a systematic methodology for gathering, reading, and synthesizing large bodies of academic research for comprehensive economic surveys (JEL style). It moves beyond simple summarization by enforcing structured data collection into a detailed evidence matrix. The process ensures maximum coverage through advanced search techniques (e.g., snowballing, JEL code sweeps) and focuses on synthesizing connections, identifying consensus, and articulating scholarly tensions across different studies.

This framework guides the creation of a structured, argumentative literature review, preventing the writing from becoming a mere annotated bibliography. By imposing a unifying taxonomy, model, or question sequence, the author transforms scattered research into a cohesive argument about the field. It helps define the 'spine' of the survey, identifies knowledge gaps, and reconciles apparent contradictions in existing literature.

This framework guides researchers in determining if a candidate academic field meets the rigorous criteria—Maturity, Importance, Synthesis Need, and Tractable Scope—required for a major, comprehensive survey article suitable for high-impact journals like the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL). It helps writers move beyond mere topic ideas to frame a compelling, scholarly argument.

This skill acts as a comprehensive workflow router for authors preparing a survey or review article for the Journal of Economic Literature (JEL). It guides users through the entire academic writing lifecycle, from initial topic selection and proposing the scope to systematic literature synthesis, structuring the argument, and handling revisions based on editor/referee feedback. It ensures the output is a scholarly synthesis, not a primary research paper.

This guide teaches academics how to write the 'related work' section for high-level theoretical journals. It emphasizes positioning a new result relative to the closest existing theorem, rather than giving a broad survey. Users learn to identify and articulate the precise 'delta'—whether it's weakening assumptions, achieving greater generality, introducing a new object, or providing a tighter/constructive characterization.

This guide teaches authors how to strategically position their research manuscript, particularly for top finance journals (like The Journal of Finance). It moves beyond a general literature survey, instructing users to articulate a crisp, unique marginal contribution—whether it's a new fact, mechanism, or method—relative to the closest existing literature. This ensures the paper is framed to meet the high standards of academic rigor and novelty required by leading journals.

This skill guides authors on how to sharply position their research contributions within highly specialized academic fields, such as international economics. Instead of writing a broad survey, it helps define a precise 'delta'—the unique gap, mechanism, or data set—relative to the most relevant frontier papers. Ideal for defining the novelty and scope of an academic manuscript for top-tier journals.

A comprehensive guide for structuring marketing research designs, particularly for journals like the Journal of Marketing (JM). It teaches researchers how to select the most appropriate method (e.g., field experiment, survey, panel data, qualitative study) that directly addresses a substantive, managerially relevant claim. The focus is on achieving both internal validity (establishing causality) and external validity (realism in the market), ensuring the method serves the core business insight rather than being an end in itself.

This guide helps authors frame their academic contributions within highly specialized fields like monetary policy, DSGE modeling, and financial intermediation. It teaches how to precisely define the novel element (shock, mechanism, or counterfactual) relative to the closest prior work, ensuring the manuscript is viewed as an advance, not a mere survey. Ideal for preparing submissions to top-tier economics journals.

A comprehensive guide detailing the rigorous statistical and methodological norms required for publishing family research, specifically tailored for journals like JMF. It covers handling complex survey weights, non-independence in dyads and families, missing data imputation, attrition modeling, and robust reporting of uncertainty and selection effects.

This comprehensive guide assists researchers in strengthening the methodological rigor of communication studies manuscripts. It details best practices for experimental design, surveys, content analysis, and computational pipelines, helping authors preemptively address common reviewer critiques regarding causality, sample validity, and internal/external validity.

A comprehensive methodological guide for conducting rigorous statistical analysis in Operations Management (OM). It covers establishing measurement validity (CFA, reliability), selecting appropriate estimators (SEM, HLM, DiD, IV) for survey and archival data, and addressing critical issues like common-method bias and endogeneity. Essential for academic research reporting.
