A guide for academic writers on how to succinctly position a research contribution against the single closest prior work in highly constrained formats (e.g., AER: Insights). It teaches authors to state the novelty (the 'delta') in one or two paragraphs, avoiding full literature reviews and focusing only on the marginal contribution.

This guide teaches how to structure a historical manuscript to function as a significant scholarly intervention, rather than a mere report of archival findings. It instructs writers on identifying the prevailing historical debate, precisely stating their argument's contribution, and revising prior scholarship while maintaining academic rigor and breadth.

This skill provides architectural guidance for writing high-level academic history articles, specifically tailored for the American Historical Review (AHR). It helps writers ensure that the narrative development and the core historical argument are seamlessly interwoven, adhering to strict length and scholarly standards. Use it when outlining complex drafts or restructuring material that feels disjointed.

This guide provides comprehensive instructions for authors submitting to the American Journal of Sociology (AJS). It details AJS's unique house style (which is NOT the ASA style guide), covering citation mechanics, note formatting, reference lists, and manuscript structure. Crucially, it advises writers on how to structure their arguments to be theoretically ambitious and legible to a generalist audience, ensuring the core contribution is immediately apparent.

Designed for advanced academic reviews, this framework guides the development of a unifying 'spine' that transcends simple literature summaries. It forces the writer to impose a novel organizational logic—such as a typology, process model, or integrating construct—thereby achieving genuine theory advancement and defining the field's future research agenda. Use this when the draft reads like a disconnected list of papers.

This framework provides a systematic methodology for imposing a strong analytical structure or taxonomy on academic literature, particularly for Annual Reviews (ARE). It guides the writer to move beyond merely compiling annotated bibliographies and instead building a cohesive argument about an entire field. Users select a primary 'spine' (e.g., taxonomy, unifying model, question sequence) to organize research, ensuring the review is both comprehensive and highly accessible to non-specialists.

This guide provides a detailed architectural framework for writing long-form art-historical essays. It teaches writers how to structure their argument by leading with the core problem and thesis, integrating visual evidence (figures) exactly where the prose requires it, and maintaining strict discipline over word count and endnotes. Essential for transforming a rambling draft into a clear, scholarly argument.

This guide teaches writers how to move beyond a literature review to effectively position their argument within an ongoing academic 'conversation.' It outlines the structural map required: identifying the core intellectual debate, pinpointing the existing assumptions (standing view), defining the gap or contradiction (pressure point), and clearly stating the essay's unique contribution (move) and potential implications (payoff). Ideal for advanced academic writing, critical theory, and interdisciplinary research.

This guide assists academic writers in selecting, deploying, and making theoretical frameworks an active instrument within essays. It teaches how to move beyond mere jargon-dumping, ensuring that concepts (such as psychoanalysis, deconstruction, or ecocriticism) genuinely contribute to a claim about the object under study. It clarifies the crucial distinction between theorizing, applying theory, and merely citing it.

A sophisticated guide for academic writers on structuring the literature review section of communication science manuscripts. It teaches authors how to move beyond simple summaries by actively positioning their hypotheses against existing empirical debates, identifying precise knowledge gaps, and adjudicating rival theoretical accounts. This skill ensures the work reads as a cumulative, theory-testing contribution suitable for top-tier academic journals.

Provides an expert framework for authors submitting to the Conference on Robot Learning (CoRL). It guides writers on how to re-frame general computer science manuscripts into specialized, robust robot-learning narratives. The guide covers defining the contribution type, establishing the evidence bar (from simulation to real-world transfer), and strategically positioning the work against major robotics conferences like ICRA and IROS.

This skill guides legal scholars and academic writers on transforming a purely descriptive legal survey into a sharp, original, and normative academic thesis. It teaches the structure of a high-impact contribution, focusing on stating a clear claim, identifying a legal gap, and articulating the potential real-world consequences (the payoff) for courts, Congress, or scholars. Essential for high-level legal publishing.
