This comprehensive guide walks authors through the rigorous academic review process, specifically referencing the Strategic Management Journal (SMJ). It teaches how to correctly interpret complex decision letters (e.g., Major Revision, Desk Reject), understand the roles of action editors and reviewers, and systematically identify critical concerns (such as contribution to theory or endogeneity). Use this skill when you need to structure a detailed revision plan and write a convincing rebuttal letter to a top-tier academic journal.

This workflow router is designed for academic researchers targeting top-tier strategy journals. It does not write the paper but acts as a systematic guide, analyzing the current state of your manuscript—from vague ideas to final submission—and recommending the precise next specialized skill needed. It ensures that the paper is systematically improved across theory development, methodological rigor, data analysis, and contribution framing, guiding the author through the entire publication lifecycle.

A comprehensive guide designed for the late-stage polishing of academic manuscripts, specifically targeting submissions to top-tier journals. It focuses on enhancing clarity, improving argument flow, adhering to strict academic house conventions (such as dual abstracts and APA style), and refining prose. This skill ensures the research contribution is clearly articulated and immediately visible to the reader, optimizing the structure and polish of the final paper.

A comprehensive guide for revising academic prose for top-tier sociological methods journals (SMR). It enforces strict structural rules, covering the mandatory introduction arc (Problem -> Gap -> Contribution -> Evidence -> Payoff), abstract limitations (≤150 words, no parenthetical citations), and disciplinary standards for statistical exposition, citation styles (ASA/DataCite), and manuscript anonymization.

This guide teaches researchers how to elevate a literature review from a mere list of empirical findings to a genuine, theory-driven academic dialogue. It helps users position their research problem within established sociological traditions (e.g., stratification, networks, institutions) and clearly articulate their theoretical contribution (inheriting, modifying, or integrating existing theories).

This comprehensive guide provides a final pre-submission checklist for authors submitting theoretical manuscripts to Sociological Theory (ST). It details critical requirements, including adherence to ASA style, ensuring double-anonymous masking, verifying conceptual contributions, and meeting specific journal formatting and ethical guidelines. Designed specifically for theory-only papers, it guides authors through the submission preparation process.

This guide provides a strategic framework for authors responding to a Revise-and-Resubmit (R&R) decision for top-tier academic journals. It teaches how to write a comprehensive response letter that addresses diverse reviewer concerns from multiple theoretical traditions (e.g., symbolic interaction, group processes) while protecting the core structure and unique contribution of the paper. Focuses on principled defense, strategic concession, and maintaining scholarly rigor.

This guide helps researchers structure a compelling theoretical argument for social science manuscripts, particularly those in social psychology. It emphasizes elevating mere findings into robust theoretical contributions by explicitly defining the social-psychological mechanism that connects macro social structures, processes, or interactions to individual levels (self, cognition, emotion). It guides users through defining scope conditions, observable implications, and the core structure–individual link.

This framework guides researchers to evaluate whether their current manuscript meets the high academic standards of top-tier comprehensive journals (e.g., Social Sciences in China). It moves beyond technical sophistication, focusing instead on the depth of intellectual contribution, originality of theory, and the macro-level significance of the research problem, preventing mis-submission and guiding revision strategy.

A comprehensive guide for researchers on elevating empirical findings into substantial theoretical contributions. It teaches methods to transition from simply stating 'X affects Y' to developing novel concepts, propositions, or analytical frameworks, ensuring the work engages in genuine theoretical dialogue and positions local experiences within a broader knowledge system.

Provides comprehensive guidelines for writing the "Related Work" and literature review sections for high-level academic publications. It emphasizes demonstrating the paper's unique contribution (delta) by organizing literature along technical threads, ensuring balanced coverage of domestic and international sources, and understanding the distinct requirements for regular papers versus specialized review commentary.

This guide outlines the essential principles for structuring scientific manuscripts submitted to academic journals. It details how to correctly allocate core evidence, lengthy proofs, additional experiments, and multimedia content across the main text, appendices, and supplementary materials. The core principle emphasized is that all evidence crucial for judging the paper's scientific contribution must reside within the main body text.
