This guide assists researchers in drafting a highly structured and scope-specific cover letter for journal submissions, particularly targeting publications like Field Crops Research. It emphasizes establishing clear scope fit (field-based, multi-environment), articulating the novel quantitative contribution, and confirming essential submission declarations (originality, data availability). Using this skill ensures the letter meets the stringent requirements necessary to pass the initial editor scope check and improve acceptance rates.

This skill provides a deep dive into the rigorous multi-stage review process for scientific manuscripts, particularly in field crops. It details editor scope screening, the single-anonymized expert review, and the specific criteria required (e.g., multi-environment data, statistical rigor, general relevance) to prevent desk rejection. Use this knowledge before submission to stress-test your manuscript, anticipate reviewer objections, and structure your findings for maximum scientific impact.

This skill helps researchers pressure-test their agronomy or crop-science project against the strict criteria of specialized journals, such as FCR (Field Crops Research). It guides users to ensure their work is field-based, multi-season/multi-environment, focuses on true field crops, and holds general scientific significance, preventing premature rejection.
