Skill UI

A comprehensive guide for structuring academic arguments, specifically tailored to the high theoretical standards of top-tier journals like AJPS. It helps researchers transform initial ideas into a rigorous framework, defining core mechanisms, stating directional and testable hypotheses before results, and establishing clear scope conditions for empirical, formal, or methodological papers.

This skill provides a rigorous framework for political scientists to pre-test their research projects against the standards of the American Journal of Political Science (AJPS). It evaluates whether a topic has a sharp, generalizable question, demonstrates strong causal identification, provides a substantive theoretical contribution, and fits the appropriate submission type (Article, Research Note, Correspondence). Use this before committing significant time to writing.

This skill guides the polishing and refinement of academic manuscripts specifically for submission to the American Journal of Political Science (AJPS). It ensures the paper adheres to strict academic standards, such as APSA or Chicago style, manages stringent word counts (e.g., Abstract <= 150 words, Article <= 10,000 words), and maintains full anonymity for double-blind review. It focuses on tightening the prose, front-loading the core contribution, and optimizing the overall structure without generating new content.

A comprehensive guide for responding to reviews and comments for the American Journal of Sociology (AJS). It structures persuasive, evidence-based rebuttal letters for Revise-and-Resubmit (R&R) stages or formal author replies to published Comments. Focuses on maintaining academic rigor, addressing conflicting points, and advancing the field's understanding through measured, theoretical engagement.

A comprehensive preflight checklist designed specifically for submitting articles to the American Journal of Sociology (AJS) via Editorial Manager. It covers critical, highly specific steps for double-blind review, including separating the cover page, adhering to the AJS house style (not ASA), ensuring required alt text for figures, crafting the ~150-word abstract, and managing the submission fee. Use this guide before final upload to avoid common rejection errors.

This skill serves as the central workflow router for manuscripts submitted to the American Journal of Sociology (AJS). It guides authors through the entire academic lifecycle, from initial topic selection and theoretical framing to research design, data analysis, and final submission/rebuttal. It helps authors determine the appropriate next step based on the manuscript type (research article, comment, reply) and current stage, ensuring the work meets AJS's high standard for theoretical ambition and sociological dialogue.

This guide provides comprehensive instructions for authors submitting to the American Journal of Sociology (AJS). It details AJS's unique house style (which is NOT the ASA style guide), covering citation mechanics, note formatting, reference lists, and manuscript structure. Crucially, it advises writers on how to structure their arguments to be theoretically ambitious and legible to a generalist audience, ensuring the core contribution is immediately apparent.

A comprehensive guide for conducting rigorous academic literature reviews. It teaches authors how to critically appraise and synthesize conflicting empirical evidence by weighing findings based on credibility, study design, and contextual differences. The framework ensures balance, maintains objectivity, and elevates the quality of academic scholarship.

Designed for advanced academic reviews, this framework guides the development of a unifying 'spine' that transcends simple literature summaries. It forces the writer to impose a novel organizational logic—such as a typology, process model, or integrating construct—thereby achieving genuine theory advancement and defining the field's future research agenda. Use this when the draft reads like a disconnected list of papers.

A comprehensive guide for addressing rigorous academic peer review feedback, especially for top-tier journals. It provides a structured, point-by-point framework for authors to revise their work, focusing on strengthening the core theoretical framework, integrating coverage gaps, establishing critical attitude, and maintaining scholarly balance. Use this when responding to major revisions or full-review referee reports.

This guide teaches researchers how to construct credible, high-impact synthesis exhibits for academic reviews (e.g., Academy of Management Annals). It focuses on creating framework figures, who-studied-what synthesis tables, and coverage exhibits that summarize existing literature, rather than presenting new primary data estimates. Essential for systematically structuring and communicating complex knowledge fields.

This comprehensive framework guides researchers on assessing the suitability of a candidate literature topic for a high-impact, integrative academic review (e.g., Annals). It requires the topic to pass five critical criteria—Maturity, Importance, Fragmentation, Integrability, and Tractable Scope—ensuring the resulting review addresses a profound 'problem with the field' and proposes a forward-looking agenda, rather than just summarizing existing knowledge.
