This guide outlines the mandatory open data and code requirements for publishing in Global Change Biology (GCB). It details that primary and secondary data, along with supporting code/software, must be archived in public, DOI-minting repositories (e.g., Dryad, Zenodo) prior to acceptance. It emphasizes that 'available on request' is not accepted and provides a structured checklist for ensuring reproducibility and proper metadata submission.

This resource details the rigorous evaluation process for Global Change Biology (GCB) submissions. It covers the criteria for high-bar desk rejection (scope, significance) and the depth of expert peer review. It is designed to guide authors on strengthening their manuscripts by pre-empting reviewer concerns, ensuring data reproducibility, and optimizing scope fit.

This guide provides methodological rigor for designing studies—including manipulative experiments, observational gradient analyses, and process modeling—in the context of global change biology. It helps researchers anticipate and address critical reviewer concerns regarding scale, replication, confounding factors, and the limits of causal inference, ensuring the design can support strong claims of driver-to-response relationships.

This comprehensive preflight checklist is designed for authors submitting manuscripts to Global Change Biology (GCB) via ScholarOne. It ensures compliance with critical publisher requirements, helping authors avoid common desk-rejection reasons. The checklist verifies scope fit, adherence to word/abstract limits, the inclusion of mandatory graphical abstracts, and proper data availability statements (requiring DOIs).

This skill helps researchers determine if a scientific idea fits the scope of Global Change Biology (GCB). It guides users to identify a global-change driver, propose a mechanistic link to a biological response (molecular to biome), and establish broad relevance, thereby sharpening the research question and framing the article type.

This tool serves as the central orchestrator for submitting manuscripts to Global Change Biology (GCB). It guides authors through the entire research lifecycle—from initial idea generation to final revision—by determining the appropriate article type and identifying the correct next step (skill). It ensures the manuscript maintains a mechanistic focus on global change impacts.

A comprehensive guide for drafting and polishing manuscripts intended for Global Change Biology (GCB). It teaches authors how to structure their work to appeal to a broad audience of ecologists and Earth-system scientists by emphasizing clear mechanisms, quantified results, and global-change significance, rather than highly specialized details.

This guide provides rigorous instructions on developing the theoretical and analytical framework for Global Environmental Change (GEC) manuscripts. It instructs researchers on how to define complex, contested concepts (like resilience, vulnerability, and governance), specify causal mechanisms, and establish testable relationships. The goal is to elevate the paper from descriptive narrative to a load-bearing, interdisciplinary contribution.

A comprehensive guide for executing and reporting rigorous analyses in global environmental change (GEC) research. This skill covers norms for quantitative, qualitative, and mixed-methods studies, emphasizing honest uncertainty reporting, robust heterogeneity testing, ensuring reproducibility, and integrating multiple data strands to withstand expert, interdisciplinary review.

This skill guides authors on how to position interdisciplinary manuscripts for journals covering global environmental change (GEC). It emphasizes connecting multiple knowledge domains (e.g., biophysical science, governance, social science) and reframing the research gap as a conceptual contribution, rather than merely pointing out an absence of study. Essential for drafting strong introductions and satisfying reviewer requirements for disciplinary breadth.

This guide helps researchers translate academic findings into rigorous, evidence-grounded implications for policy, governance, and practice concerning global environmental change. It stresses that implications must be specific (naming actors and levers), honest about scope and uncertainty, and directly traceable to the study's results, avoiding generic overstatements.

This guide provides a comprehensive framework for authors to rigorously defend their research design in manuscripts concerning Global Environmental Change (GEC). It covers methodological pluralism, including quantitative causal inference, qualitative case studies, experiments, and mixed-methods integration. Learn how to strengthen your design, justify causal claims, address confounders, and link local evidence to multi-scale global processes.
