Skill UI

A comprehensive guide for academic researchers responding to R&R or conditional acceptance decisions for the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics (AEJ: Applied). This skill structures the response-to-referees letter and revision plan, emphasizing the triage of reviewer comments, adherence to editor priorities (especially concerning identification and robustness), and maintaining a professional, evidence-based tone. It helps authors transform critical feedback into a concrete, actionable revision strategy.

This guide provides a comprehensive, advanced strategy for academic researchers writing microeconometric papers for top-tier journals (e.g., AEJ: Applied). It teaches authors how to anticipate sophisticated, technical objections from expert referees (such as issues with causal inference design, selection bias, or parallel trends). The focus is on pre-empting these objections by integrating solutions directly into the manuscript text, rather than waiting for a formal revision letter.

This guide outlines the mandatory steps and components required to assemble a robust, reproducible data and code replication package for submissions to the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics (AEJ: Applied). It ensures compliance with the stringent AEA Data and Code Availability Policy, covering data provenance, master scripts, and version control. This package must be built iteratively, not at the acceptance stage.

This guide details how to construct a sophisticated and rigorous robustness suite for top-tier academic econometrics journals (e.g., AEJ: Applied). It moves beyond simple regression tables, providing targeted checks against common methodological threats such as omitted variables, specification search, functional form choices, and incorrect statistical inference. The goal is to systematically demonstrate that the main point estimate is stable, reliable, and not an artifact of the research design.

A comprehensive preflight checklist for authors submitting manuscripts to the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics (AEJ: Applied) via the AEA ScholarOne system. It guides authors through verifying critical elements like front matter, JEL codes, data policy compliance, required fees, and disclosure statements, ensuring the manuscript is fully prepared before the final submission.

A comprehensive guide for formatting and presenting empirical results (tables and figures) for submission to the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics (AEJ: Applied). It ensures that main causal estimates are immediately legible to referees by adhering to rigorous academic standards, including presenting standard errors, confidence intervals, and specific exhibit structures like event-study plots and balance tables.

This guide provides a methodology for integrating theoretical models into empirical economics papers, especially for journals emphasizing empirical findings (e.g., AEJ: Applied). It teaches researchers how to ensure that theoretical components—such as mechanisms, welfare statements, or counterfactuals—serve to interpret, sharpen, or guide the existing empirical estimates, rather than leading the paper or replacing the core identification provided by the design. Focus on sufficient statistics and minimal model assumptions is key.

This guide helps researchers strategically assess whether their empirical microeconomics project is best suited for the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics (AEJ: Applied). It provides a structured framework to test the project's causal design, scope, and cross-field appeal, ensuring the question is 'AEJ: Applied-shaped' rather than being too general (AER) or too specialized (Field Journal).

A comprehensive workflow router designed for authors submitting manuscripts to the American Economic Journal: Applied Economics (AEJ: Applied). This skill guides the user through every stage of the academic writing process—from initial topic selection and literature positioning to causal identification, robustness checks, polishing, data replication package preparation, and final submission/rebuttal. It acts as a navigational guide, ensuring all critical steps required by top-tier economics journals are addressed in the correct sequence.

This guide helps revise the prose, abstract, and introduction of applied economics manuscripts to conform to the high standards of AEJ: Applied. It teaches how to structure the paper by leading with the core finding and ensuring the economic question is clear in the first paragraph, transforming technical drafts into highly legible, journal-ready exposition.

This guide outlines the rigorous methodological standards for empirical identification in macroeconomics, crucial for submitting to top-tier journals. It covers advanced techniques such as Structural VAR (SVAR), Local Projections (LP), and handling high-frequency/micro-data shocks. It ensures authors explicitly defend the mapping from raw data to dynamic causal objects, addressing critical issues like endogeneity, anticipation, and structural breaks, and providing execution checklists for modern econometric tools (DiD, IV, RDD).

A comprehensive guide for authors responding to major journal decisions (e.g., R&R or reject-with-comments) in economics. This skill teaches a systematic approach to triaging reviewer comments, structuring the rebuttal letter point-by-point, and ensuring revisions are supported by new empirical evidence rather than just prose. It focuses on maintaining academic rigor and professional communication.
