Skill UI

This skill provides a rigorous framework for political scientists to pre-test their research projects against the standards of the American Journal of Political Science (AJPS). It evaluates whether a topic has a sharp, generalizable question, demonstrates strong causal identification, provides a substantive theoretical contribution, and fits the appropriate submission type (Article, Research Note, Correspondence). Use this before committing significant time to writing.

Designed for advanced academic reviews, this framework guides the development of a unifying 'spine' that transcends simple literature summaries. It forces the writer to impose a novel organizational logic—such as a typology, process model, or integrating construct—thereby achieving genuine theory advancement and defining the field's future research agenda. Use this when the draft reads like a disconnected list of papers.

This guide helps researchers structure their discussion section and manuscript to explicitly articulate the theoretical contribution, moving beyond simple results reporting. It teaches how to identify, claim, and frame various types of theoretical advancements (e.g., new mechanisms, boundaries, or integrating literatures), ensuring the paper meets the high standards of top-tier academic journals like AMJ.

This comprehensive workflow acts as a systematic router for authors writing empirical management papers for the Academy of Management Journal (AMJ). It guides users through the entire research lifecycle—from initial topic selection and theory development, through rigorous methodology and data analysis, to refining writing style, and finally managing the submission and rebuttal process. It ensures the manuscript meets the high standards of theoretical and empirical contribution required by top-tier academic journals.

A guide for structuring academic arguments, ensuring your research paper actively engages with and advances a specific theoretical conversation. It teaches authors how to move beyond simple literature summaries by explicitly identifying a core theoretical stream, pinpointing its limitations (the challenge), and proposing new theoretical mechanisms (the extension). Essential for high-impact scholarly writing in management and social sciences.

This guide helps researchers determine if their empirical economic manuscript is suitable for submission to AEJ: Economic Policy. It focuses on transforming a clean empirical finding into a policy-driven narrative by identifying a concrete policy lever, stating a clear policy question, and quantifying the welfare or cost-benefit implications.

A comprehensive guide for researchers developing manuscripts in Accounting, Organizations, and Society (AOS). It teaches how to select, deeply inhabit, and generate analysis using established social or organizational theories (e.g., Institutional Theory, Bourdieu, Foucault). The goal is to ensure the theory is the generative engine of the paper, rather than merely decorative framing. This framework guides the transition from description to rigorous, theory-driven contribution.

This guide provides advanced strategies for authors to position their research contribution within the broader academic debate, particularly for highly competitive, generalist journals like APSR. It teaches authors how to move beyond subfield-specific citations by identifying the core contested debate, engaging cross-subfield literature, and framing the paper's move to ensure its relevance to a general political science audience.

This guide outlines a systematic methodology for conducting comprehensive literature reviews in economics. It moves beyond simple summarizing by teaching researchers how to build an evidence matrix, ensuring systematic coverage by sweeping databases (JEL codes, keywords, working papers). It is essential for preparing high-impact academic reviews that must prove exhaustive coverage and synthesize complex, often conflicting, findings.

A detailed guide for authors writing the Related Work section of an Automated Software Engineering (ASE) paper. It teaches the crucial 'delta argument' methodology, emphasizing that positioning must be against prior automated tools, covering multiple SE literature lanes, and conducting fair, head-to-head empirical comparisons to clearly delineate the novelty of the proposed work.

A comprehensive audit guide for submitting research papers to IEEE/ACM ASE conferences. It covers strict formatting rules (acmart template, page budget), mandatory Data Availability Statements, double-anonymous review compliance, and critical submission pitfalls like identity leaks and template errors. Use this checklist before uploading to HotCRP to maximize acceptance chances.

This guide outlines the critical rules for structuring technical research papers submitted to top-tier conferences like ASE. It emphasizes the 'decision-criticality' rule, instructing authors on how to separate core arguments (which must fit within the 10-page body) from reproduction details, raw logs, and supplementary material (the artifact). Mastering this separation is crucial for ensuring reviewers judge the paper on its merits, not its supplementary data.
